How many times, in your learnin’ path you have been taught about ~
- The Subconscious Mind.
- The teachings of Nikola tesla, about Energy and stuff
- The teachings of Carl Jung and Napoleon Hill
- What is Meditation? The importance of meditation
The primary building block of an Individual’s life is the “education”. How good the education is, determines the quality person one would be. Choosing the correct career option at the right time is equally important, as we all know about the concept of 10,000 hours and 80,000 hours.
What does Education mean?
- an enlightening experience
- the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university
- a body of knowledge acquired while being educated, etc
As defined by the google search.
So, the Layman meaning of education would be, the process of learning and acquiring experience and knowledge, generally or specifically. General would be to obtain the basic education, i.e. secondary or higher secondary education and the specific would be, to obtain a masters degree in a particular field.
Education as per Mahatma Gandhi is ~
By education i mean an all round drawing of the best in child and man in body, mind and spirit
This, is the missing link in the Education system, i.e. the overall development, the building of one’s character along with learning. The teachings of mind and spirit, the mind and body control, do not even exist.
The major emphasis is always placed on learning what’s inside the text and the notebooks, mugging’em up and throwing it all out on your examination paper (not the literal throwing up :P)
How many times are we taught about the findings of ~ The man who knew infinity ~ S.Ramanujan? How many times we were told, “failure is as important as the success”, apparently never!
We are always taught to succeed, to score as high as possible, to study as long as we can, to sacrifice other stuff and focus only on studies, well, the problem is, no one understands the importance of PASSION.
The misconception about Passion is, success will come to you without hassle and efforts, which ain’t true! The only purpose passion can serve, is to ~
- To motivate you, when things go all wrong.
- Provide you with your life purpose
- Make you single minded, thus clearing your vision.
- Act as a catalyst in your journey.
Was this taught at your school?
- If yes, you are a lucky soul
- If not, welcome to the club 😛
Complete your basic education, Get an udergrad degree, masters degree, find a decent job, settle, get married, run after money, survive, DIE. These are the mediocre life phases, sadly most people live this way.
Another issue faced by the students is, the constant Pressure, which on short-term basis proves to be the best motivator, but on the long-term prospectives, it just makes the student more anxious and worried. Parents often pressurise students to score a particular % so as to get admission in the desired colleges. If the student gets motivated, he does wonders and makes his mark in his examinations, if not, results are sometimes quite drastic.
Now, the best part of the Indian Education system…. DRUMROLL…….. “RESERVATIONS”.
Yes, reservations.
As per Wikipedia,
“Reservation in India is the process of facilitating a person in education, scholarship, jobs, and in the promotion who has category certificates. Reservation is a form of quota-based affirmative action. Reservation is governed by constitutional laws, statutory laws, and local rules and regulations. Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC), under the Constitution – with the object of ensuring a level playing field”.
Yep, you read it right, on CATEGORY -BASIS, not on MERIT. This scheme was launched with a very good intention, to provide aid and assistance to the weaker sections of the society, which were exploited by the wealthy community.
But, unfortunately, there are no measures to note the exploitation, and many people quote Reservations as “Positive Discrimination” therefore there must be a reconstitution in the above scheme, Reservations should be provided ~
- To the person in need
- On the basis of MERIT, and on such related basis.
The Education System shall be one, which identifies an individual’s unique attributes, teaches about the importance of Passion; failures and mishappenings. Inspires to dive into the spiritual world, i.e., The mind and body connection.
No matter what the irregularities, our Education system, is the primary key in our development, it’s the education system which trains and prepares ~
Engineers, like Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvarya, who are responsible for the development of the society, as, from a highly complex satellite system to a simple pack of chips, from an individual’s home to the designing of a large urban sanitation system, everything is engineered.
Doctors, like Devi Shetty, who work endlessly to provide their patients with a better life, doctors like Dr Sebi, who can cure any disease known to mankind (yup, ANY)
Lawyers, like Mr Harish Salve, who helps us in the time of difficulties and make legal proceedings and compliances easy.
Corporate giants, like Ambanis,
Great sports athletes like, Sachin R. Tendulkar, Marry Kom, who represents a nation at the International level.
Extraordinary artists.
Brilliant politicians and ministers, like Mr Narendra Modi
The 24*7 working police force and army personnel
It’s because of our education system, that we achieve greatness in life and are capable enough to set and achieve our goals. It’s because of it, that we are even able to read/write this blog posts. There are always mixed opinions about everything, some curse it and wish for change, no matter what the level of education and Infrastructures provided, some dream to ever go to a school. Me, on the other end, appreciates the working of the system and wishes for few changes.
As requested by Jay Shah,
MY EXPERIENCE
I received a combination of various flavours in my learning way, be it facing a difficulty or getting assistance from the multiple institutions. As I received my education in 3 different towns (2 different states).I came across a pool of experiences which were fun, challenging and sometimes ordeal.
The biggest problem was, the Non-Uniformity, every institute had it’s unique protocol and genuine way of teaching, the way things were carried out, was always different. For instance, my former institute was based on ICSE guidelines and the later two were CBSE based. This was the major change, which was the most difficult to cope with. As there’s a huge difference between the two, where one is registered with the Indian Government and the other isn’t. One approves Hindi, the other doesn’t.
Another big issue which we all face is, same learning material, i.e. no emphasis on SKILL BASED EDUCATION from a bookworm to a national level athlete, from multiple music awards recipient to an all time debate champ, everyone has to go for the same level of examination. IRONY?
There must be a different set of protocol for different types of students, based on their preference, area of interest, liking and passion. As no one is born and grown up with the same level of intelligence, IQ, EQ, and interests. So why should the education be the same?
The importance of CAREER COUNSELLING can’t be ignored, hardly any institute can be noticed which provides correct career counselling after 10th / 12th grade. We live in an era, where more time is given to choosing the venue for the birthday party then deciding what to opt for and to choose as a career. It’s not always the fault of the school/college but the student’s itself. Even the student fails to opt for the right career for him, based on his aptitude and preferences, he goes for the career option in which, there’s a lot of $$$$$$$$ involved, the one which his parents told him to select or the one which his friend chooses.Every student needs to get proper career counselling at the right time so as to choose a career based on his/ her likes, interests, passion and goals.
TO CONCLUDE
The Indian Education system, is well equipped and properly designed to provide great quality of education and world class infrastructure to it’s students, only a few points shall be re-considered, such as ~
- Uniformity
- Skill Based education
- Practical approach
- Proper career Counselling
- The existing Reservation system
